Utility costs

The Selby Centre energy bill has gone up from £120,000 a year in 2021 to £370,000 in 2022. Our electricity bill has gone up from £197 to £643 a day. We must make savings on site to keep the Selby Centre running to help future generations.

Shut down PCs when not in use

Fully shut down all PCS when not in use – each desktop PC costs about £53 a month if left on 24/7 (vs less than £18 a month if it's shut down every night).

Use of electric heaters

Never use Electric Heaters – a 2kw heater costs about 84p an hour. Our building is heated throughout the day, and we encourage the use of hot water bottles and layers if still cold.
