"With the historic success and momentum caused by the success of the GB Boxing team at London 2012, now is the time to provide opportunities for young people and nurture their sporting talent”
It's great news as this month the Selby Amateur Boxing Club has been officially welcomed as a member of the The Amateur Boxing Association of England Ltd becoming an ABA Boxing Club supporting local young people to go even further and make a difference beyond Tottenham. The Selby Amateur Boxing Club runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the Selby centre Gym and is a great way for local young people to develop their life skills, confidence and improve their fitness.
"Amateur boxing is a great sport that helps in still life skills like determination, self-confidence and reach new levels of fitness. The ABA membership will really help benefit the young people who attend the centre, by offering ABA level coaching and training with opportunities to all to take part in regional and national competitions and even pursue careers in coaching and fitness."
As part of our commitment to community sport, the Selby Amateur Boxing Club will continue to improve the health and inclusion of a diverse population engaged with healthy living in our commuities. With the support of Sportivate,BigLottery funding and Sport England, the Club will also form part of Pro-Active North London; supporting sport and physical activites across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest.
The club recently received a generous donation of £1200 from the ProfitFlo Trust helping to support young people overcome disadvantage in London. Selby Amateur Boxing will be using the funds to make a difference to all those taking part, to help maximise the potential of local young people from a range of different backgrounds.
Working with professional boxers and coach Paulo Muhongo, the Club provides a key place for young people to learn and develop talents through an activity that promotes social integration, overall fitness, co-ordination and body management, healthy living and fun for both partcipants and local parents who can take pride in their children's increased confidence and development.
As a highly skilled sport, boxing is also well known for teaching a number of beneficial life skills such as understanding mood and strategic thinking. It's great fun too!
