Work set to start on new homes and community facilities at Selby Urban Village

A major milestone has been reached in the delivery of the Selby Urban Village in North Tottenham, as Haringey Council and the Selby Trust move the flagship project into construction with the appointment of a delivery contractor.

The scheme, spanning the existing Selby Centre site in Haringey and the Bull Lane Playing Fields in Enfield, will bring forward new council housing, community facilities and green space.

Haringey Council Leader, Peray Ahmet and Cllr Ruth Gordon, Cabinet Member for Placemaking and the Local Economy joined Paul Butler from the Selby Trust to meet the contractor, Hill, on-site.

The first phase of construction will deliver a new community centre, sports changing rooms, upgraded park and outdoor garden facilities and revitalised sports pitches. The redesigned Bull Lane Park will provide extensive new tree planting, a large children’s play area, an outdoor gym and unlock new cycle routes - creating a hub for physical and mental wellbeing, as well as cultural, social and enterprise activity.

Phase two will deliver more than 200 new council homes by 2030, including many family-sized properties and 21 wheelchair-adapted homes, supporting the borough’s wider target to build more than 3,000 genuinely affordable homes by 2031.

The development has been designed with future generations in mind. With low carbon homes and community buildings and incorporating measures to mitigate overheating and flood risk, ensuring long-term climate resilience.

Cllr Gordon Cabinet Member for Placemaking and the Local Economy said:

We are delighted that construction on the Selby Urban Village is now underway. Working closely with the Selby Trust, we are delivering more than 200 high quality, sustainable council homes at council rent, along with a new community hub, parkland and sports facilities.
Selby Urban Village will be a leading example of how good placemaking can support both existing and new residents and help make North Tottenham a vibrant destination for healthy, sustainable living.

Victor Olisa, Selby Trust Chair, said:

We are proud to help deliver a place that brings people together, tackles inequality, and sets a new standard for community-led regeneration, through the Selby Urban Village.
This landmark moment marks the start of the construction of the development, which will help unlock a new and better inclusive Selby Centre and facilities, designed with and for the community in which we serve.

The development, in collaboration with Haringey Council represents more than just a building project, but hope, aspiration, and a shared commitment to a better future for many.

Paul Butler, Chief Executive, The Selby Trust, said:

This is an exciting step forward for the Selby Urban Village. Appointing a contractor brings us closer to creating a vibrant, inclusive space where our community can thrive, connect, and shape its own future.
This is more than bricks and mortar, this is about valuing communities and providing quality services.

Construction mobilisation will begin immediately, paving the way for the start on site and the construction of the new Selby Centre.
