3 Trainee Community Organisers to work in White Hart Lane and beyond in the Tottenham Area
Contract: 51 Week Fixed Term Contract (78 weeks part time)
Salary: £8.50 per hour
Hours: 30-35 hrs full time per week preferred (22.5 hrs per week p/t possible)
Selby Trust is looking for dynamic, motivated and enterprising individuals who know the local area to take on the exciting role of Community Organisers in Tottenham.
Successful applicants will be employed by Locality (the UK’s leading network for community-led organisations) and hosted locally by the Selby Trust, who will be providing local support, management and office facilities at the Selby Centre.
Community Organisers will work in targeted areas to help residents, businesses and groups to develop their collective power to act together for the common good. Extensive training will be given, beginning with a 4-day residential course from 16th – 19th April 2013 (successful applicants must be available to attend this training session).
Community Organisers is a government-funded scheme which aims to train 5,000 ‘Community Organisers’, individuals who will work in local communities around the country to bring people together, listen to ideas, build networks and support people to tackle the local issues which are important to them.
Trainee Community Organisers will learn how to motivate and support people locally to organise by using Listening Matters and other approaches for community action. Listening Matters involves systematic listening and dialogue that builds trusting, respectful relationships, networks and connectivity between and across diverse communities.

You should show clearly how you meet the essential and preferred criteria for Trainee Community Organiser as outlined in the person specification, including describing your experience and knowledge gained from paid and unpaid work roles. Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are eligible to work in the UK and must be available for a three/four day residential training course from April 16th to 19th 2013
Selection will be via an assessment day in Birmingham on either March 4th or 7th 2013 (candidates select their preferred date - all expenses paid) , followed by a local interview by the Host.
Selection will be by assessment, a local Interview & Assessment and a telephone Interview & Assessment. Contracts will be issued after an offer is made, and will be required to be signed only until after the 3 day residential training course, giving candidates the opportunity to ‘experience’ the work before making a final decision on accepting the post.
