Plans co-designed with the community to transform the Selby Centre into a brand-new urban village have received another huge boost.
Last night (15 July 2025), Cabinet gave the green light to begin the process to appoint a building contractor so that work can begin in March 2026 to deliver the scheme.
Planning permission was granted by Haringey in April 2025 to demolish and replace the current Selby Centre in Tottenham with 202 much needed homes at council rent for local families.
It followed the decision by Enfield earlier in the year to give the green light for a new high-quality, sustainable Selby Centre to be built next door in the corner of Bull Lane Playing Fields on their side of the border.
Cllr Ruth Gordon, Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Local Economy, said:
This is another important step forward for this fantastic project. Our ambitions for this development have been fashioned through a collaborative, co-design process with the Selby Trust and local community. We have jointly set out a vision to create an urban village where people can have new homes and all the amenities to enjoy healthy, fulfilled lives right on their doorstep. It will serve as a beacon of excellence that enhances North Tottenham as a destination for sports and leisure in a sustainable environment. I believe Selby Urban Village will emerge as an exemplar of how placemaking can work for existing and new residents.
Paul Butler, CEO Selby Trust, said:
This milestone is the result of years of collaboration between the council, the Selby Trust, and the local community. It represents not just a building project, but hope, aspiration, and a shared commitment to a better future for Tottenham. The new Selby Centre will be a game-changer — a welcoming, inclusive space designed with and for the people who use it every day. Whether you're here to launch a business, access vital services, or play sport, the hub will provide a real sense of community. We are proud to help deliver a place that brings people together, tackles inequality, and sets a new standard for community-led regeneration.
Haringey Council has made it one of its priorities to deliver a new generation of 3,000 high-quality council homes by 2031, with more than 2,000 already underway or completed.
Selby Urban Village, a partnership between the council and Selby Trust, will provide much-needed family-sized accommodation, including 67 three-bedroom homes alongside 12 four-bedroom properties.
As well as council homes and the new Selby Centre at the heart of the village, the project will deliver high-quality, accessible and affordable sporting facilities and improved green space, connecting communities through new foot and cycle routes.
Phase One of the scheme will see the building of the community centre, sports changing rooms, and the regenerated park facilities and sports pitches.
The finished development will create a hub of sporting amenities for physical and mental wellbeing and a community space where people can come together for cultural celebrations, start innovative enterprises, and hold community events.
The new Bull Lane Park will feature extensive tree-planting, a large children’s play area, an outdoor gym and new cycle route.
Phase two will bring more than 200 new homes for council tenants by November 2029, including many family-sized properties and 21 wheelchair adapted homes for residents that can struggle to find suitable housing.
Councillors also gave permission to accept funding for the scheme from the Football Foundation.
