The Selby Centre has been named Culture Project of the Year at the 2025 NLA Awards — a fantastic recognition of the ambition and partnership driving the Selby Urban Village.
Karakusevic Carson Architects have led the design of the new Selby Centre, working closely with The Selby Trust and Haringey Council. The project will transform a former secondary school site and run-down playing fields into a vibrant new community hub, creating a connected, inclusive and welcoming place for people to work, learn, live and gather. The new village will offer workspaces, large-scale events space, classrooms, sports amenities and recreation facilities. The new village will also offer housing.

The existing Selby Centre has long been a cornerstone of community life — a place where local businesses, charities, residents and organisations come together to share, learn and participate — and the new building will build on this legacy for the next generation.
The scheme secured planning consent earlier this year. Designed with a sustainable passive strategy at its heart, the new Selby Centre features deep façades and articulated lintels that respond to different orientations, providing natural shading and reducing running costs. The project aims to help the community thrive and deliver a space that brings delight to both locals and visitors.
Supported by the Mayor of London, the NLA Awards celebrate the people, places and projects shaping the future of the capital.
